Enid Ratahi-Pryor QSO

Chief Executive Officer

With an extensive background in the health and social service sector, Enid has been responsible for the implementation of the Boards strategic direction and leadership of our people for over three decades. Under her leadership the organisation has grown from a small care and protection focussed organisation in 1989 into being one of the largest integrated providers of services in the Bay of Plenty. Passionate about enabling choices and opportunities for whanau to grow their capacity and capability, Enid continues to further develop new service delivery opportunities to meet the needs of Ngati Awa and our wider community. With numerous governance and philanthropic roles in the local, regional and national arenas Enid combines comprehensive governance and management skills and expertise to support the Board and our people at Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngati Awa.

Our Board

Our Board of Trustees are the kaitiaki (guardians) of our kaupapa. They provide strategic leadership, uphold our tikanga, and ensure that Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngāti Awa remains accountable to our people. Their guidance helps us navigate both opportunities and challenges with care, wisdom, and vision.

Des Harawira
Cultural Advisor

Desmond brings over 30 years of experience in the social and health sectors. As our Cultural Advisor, Desmond is passionate about progressing our kaitiaki along their respective te ao māori journey strengthening their confidence to engage with whānau whilst maintaining their cultural safety.  At an organisation level he prioritises cultural integrity offering numerous benefits, including strengthening relationships, fostering equitable practices, and enhancing the overall well-being of the community. It also promotes a sense of ownership and authenticity [Mā Ngāti Awa, mō Ngāti Awa], which can lead to greater success and satisfaction within the organisation.

Olivia Allen
Deputy Chief Executive and Senior HR Advisor

With previous experience working in a government agency and tertiary institute, Olivia brings a practical, solutions-focused approach to everything from employee relations and performance management to compliance and organisational development. Olivia’s ability to assess situations from a process and strategic focused aspect allows her to partner with managers and teams to navigate complex HR challenges while aligning strategy with company culture.

Gerhard Roux
Chief Financial Officer

Gerhard brings over two decades of senior leadership experience in finance, strategy, and socio-economic development across both Aotearoa New Zealand and South Africa. He has led high-performing teams in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, with a career spanning public sector, local government, iwi partnerships, and social and economic development sectors. Gerhard has also led shared services functions, developed innovative financial models, and supported significant housing and infrastructure projects through sound financial advice and funding strategies.

Miria Tarau
Director - Te Pūkāea o te Waiora

Miria brings over 20 years experience as a Social Work practitioner with a long standing career in statutory social work.  She has had the privilege of serving in various roles including frontline social worker, supervisor, team leader, development of social work kaimahi and management.  Miria's diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities involved in supporting vulnerable tamariki and whanau. She is committed to advocating for children's rights and welfare.  Her goal is to continue to make a positive impact in the social work sector, driving improvements in practice and outcomes for those she serves.

Manu Glen
Executive Manager - Te Waipuna Ariki o Matangireia

Manu brings two decades of leadership in social services and early childhood at Te Tohu o te Ora o Ngāti Awa. As Manager of Te Waipuna Ariki o Matangireia and Deputy Chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa, she champions kaupapa Māori, whānau wellbeing, and intergenerational empowerment.

Jess Faga
Executive Manager - Whānau Resilience

Born and bred in Whakatāne, Jess is of Ngāti Awa descent and Ahi kā. With over a decade of experience at Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngāti Awa, primarily in Social Services, she is grounded in Mātauranga Māori and guided by the values of aroha and manaaki. Jess is deeply committed to whānau wellbeing and advocates hapū and iwi development, driving intergenerational transformation through a culturally grounded, strength-based approach.

Fiona Kennedy
Executive Manager - Rukuhia Te Mahi Employment Service

With 20 years in healthcare and community services, Fiona brings diverse experience across clinical, administrative, and employment sectors. From teaching in South Korea to managing a construction business, Fiona now supports workforce development at Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngāti Awa through the Rukuhia Te Mahi Employment Service.

Joanne Tyler-Cole
Manager - Finance

A Chartered Accountant with a background in chemistry, mathematics, and education, Joe brings a unique blend of analytical and teaching experience. After moving from the UK to Whakatāne in 2008, she transitioned from secondary education to finance, joining Ngāti Awa Social and Health Services in 2023.

Holly Casey
Manager - Kahu Taurima

Holly is a highly respected Māori midwife with over 15 years of experience delivering culturally safe, whānau-centered maternity care. A leader in her field, Holly is known for her unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of wāhine, pēpi and whānau. Holly is a champion and advocate for the integration of maternity and early years services to ensure seamless, wraparound support for whānau. Holly brings a strong foundation in te ao Māori to her practice, weaving together traditional knowledge and modern clinical expertise.

Denise Kingi
Manager - Rehua Ariki

Denise has three decades of experience in kaupapa Māori service delivery. Her professional journey reflects a deep commitment to advancing whānau wellbeing, mental health, and community development through culturally grounded and strategic leadership. Denise began her career in nursing. Her work soon expanded into iwi health and health promotion, where she played a pivotal role in designing and implementing initiatives that uplift Māori communities and address health inequities. Her leadership capabilities were further demonstrated in her role as General Manager of Māori Health and is currently serving as a health manager at Te Tohu o te Ora o Ngāti Awa, Denise continues to champion the empowerment of whānau.

Maude Takarua
Manager - Policy and Quality

With over three decades in Māori health, Maude has led initiatives advancing “by Māori, for Māori” services across the Bay of Plenty.  Maude drives strategic growth, service innovation, and whānau-centred outcomes, grounded in well established iwi relationships and community leadership.
