He Haumaru, He Oranga – Prioritising People & Safety
We’re seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team in Whakatāne, Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time role focused on supporting the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this position plays a key role in shaping a proactive safety culture across the organisation. Acting as a trusted advisor, you'll work alongside leaders to strengthen systems, lift capability, and ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
From providing practical guidance to influencing positive change, this is an opportunity to make a real impact across all levels of the organisation.
What Your Days Will Involve:
- Develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and practices to ensure legislative compliance
- Provide advice and guidance on all health and safety matters to management and employees
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards
- Deliver health and safety training to staff and promote a positive safety culture across the organisation
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including regulators, to ensure best practice safety standards are met
- Monitor and report on health and safety performance metrics to drive continuous improvement

You are passionate about cultivating a safety conscious culture, along with a genuine drive to influence positive change. You'll have strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices and a proven ability to work alongside leaders to lift health and safety performance.
You’ll also bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
- 5+ years' experience as a Health and Safety Advisor or Officer, preferably within a social services or community-based organisation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organisation
- Proven ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks and drive continuous safety improvements
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to work autonomously
- A collaborative and inclusive work environment
- Full Drivers Licence
